The new generation of consoles have been out now for nearly three months. All the arguing about “fanboyism”, the “f**k you, crapstation sucks” and “micro$haft is trying to r**e u with there xbone” have phased out. Sony is leading the way with sales, and stores are finally able to keep with up with tremendous demand of these new consoles.
There have been updates for the PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and both have completely made the Nintendo Wii U flop, but none of that matters anymore. All of these great accomplishments and accolades have lost their meaning, or at least not to me. None of it affects me, and none of it changes my decision about which console is better, and I choose the PlayStation 4. But right now, none of these consoles look like winners, or at least not to me. I am not directing my frustration or blame to Sony, because they supposedly made consoles with the developers opinions to make it a much better console and easier to develop for. But I think I speak for all gamers whether they own a Wii U, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4 when I ask this question. Where are the games?!
Don’t get me wrong, there are games available, just not enough of them. I’ve played NBA 2K14, Madden 25, Assassins Creed: Black Flag, and Fifa 14 on the previous generation. I’ve already fought the Russians and Chinese on Battlefield 4 on the previous generation, and please lets not get started on Call of Duty. Tomb Raider the exception, was a great title to play on the PS4 because I never played it before, but seriously where are my games, our games. My hopes were set high for Watch Dogs, which had a release date of November 15, 2013, but was pushed back. Infamous Second Son is right less than two months away, which brings great news. The Division is still another year away, and the new Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is only 2 hours long! So seriously, what happened to the games.
Where are the Tony Hawks, Skates, WWE, UFC, Fight Night, Ridge Racer, Tekkan, Street Fighter, Onimusha, Resident Evil, Gundam, Silent Hill, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Moto GP, Rainbow Six, God of War, Klonoa, the hash and slash games, and the button mashing adventure games, heck I would even take a DragonBall Z game right about now. This drought of games is worse the the drought that California is facing right now.
I do understand that these are new consoles and to make these games look as beautiful as they ought to be on the new $399 console takes more man hours and development time, but can I at least get a release date. Maybe a preview, or even a possible acknowledgment of some other games. Party chat and Netflix can only go so far before I look at my game collection and shake my head. I won’t say that Sony isn’t trying. Don’t starve, WarFrame, Outlast, Contrast, Resogun, Blacklight have definitely helped the cause here, but as a pessimistic perception, what would happen if Sony didn’t give us these games?
Time might be the remedy for certain things, but this is not one of them. So I end my rant here, I will go to class, go to work, see my girlfriend, and come back and play the same games…all over again….eh.
