With Valentine’s Day less than 12 hours away, there is sure to be a lot of “Will You Date Me” posters, plenty of last minute shopping, lots of proposals, and surprisingly lots of breakups. I found an interesting article that points out that only 1 in 5 couples celebrate Valentine’s Day, and more than half of couples will actually breakup the week before, and after Valentine’s Day. Now that is a lot of love lost! There is so much negativity surrounding this day and I want to be a little different and add a little positivity to it. This is my Valentine’s Day thoughts.
So even with those sad statistics about Valentine’s Day, lets not forget what this day is truly about. It isn’t just about gift giving, buying the reddest roses you can find, stuffing someone’s face or even your own face with chocolate. This day supposed to be about sharing your love with loved ones. friends, families, strangers, pets, you name it! And even though this loving day has been commercialized and quite frankly fairy tale like, with some of the expectations people have, don’t let that ruin it for you. Just as Labor Day is a day for us to enjoy a day to ourselves (for most of us) Valentines’ Day should just be a day to express your love. And just like any other holiday, make it a great day!
I will actually share one of my Valentine’s Day Experiences. I was involved in a car accident three years ago that totaled my truck (which i miss) and was completely heartbroken (see what I did there) I had no clue what to do or how to feel. I missed school, possibly would miss seeing my valentine, and would would ultimately be without a car for who knows how long! I smoked a cigarette and fretted, and luckily I didn’t pick up a smoking habit. But as many things in life work in mysterious ways, that Valentine’s Day was no different.. I was able to get a rental (although I was not 21 at the time), my insurance covered the accident for me, and I actually did get to see my Valentine that day. Boy was I happy to see her face! But I also remember the love my family showed me, the support my friends gave me by actually taking the day off to counsel me through my problems, and mostly for my health! I walked away from the accident with no injuries!
So even if you don’t have a date, girlfriend/boyfriend, a wife/husband, or partner, don’t let it stop you from showing your love. There is probably someone you know right now that is going through problems, or just needs someone to talk to and is too shy to admit it. And as cheesy as it sounds, making someone happy and feel loved will do the same for you. So I challenge you all to tell as many people on Valentine’s Day that you love them.
I will do the same, but In the mean time, I still have to consider what to get this very special girl in my life for Valentine’s Day because that’s just what I am used to. Watch me talk about it while I kick some butt in Call of Duty Ghosts below.
