It has been announced that Uncharted 4 will be delayed until Spring 2016 in order to give Naughty Dog more time to finish the game the way they had envisioned it. Uncharted 4 is expected to be on of the biggest PlayStation 4 exclusives, as well as the end of the game series “Uncharted”. Many gamers and critics may see this as a good move, but I myself am not so sure of it.
Clearly we do not want any repeats of the horrid game releases we have been seeing this generation with games like Watch Dogs, NBA 2K14, NBA 2K15, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Driveclub; but the truth is there is something going on behind the scenes to make for game like Uncharted to be pushed back. A game like Uncharted, which is an exclusive, and has been most likely worked on for years for console that they knew would have a pretty large install base, should not need to be pushed back. And when a move is being made like the one Naughty Dog made, it creates a little doubt in my mind.
A generation ago this would have been good news, but not anymore. Maybe it’s the bitter taste of games that were also pushed back that ended up being sub-par like Watch Dogs and Assassin’s creed. The truth is I feel that any game with a development process longer than 2 years is being pushed back, is very suspect and is telling me the game developers are scared. Scared of what, I am not sure. Maybe they felt Uncharted would not hang with other blockbuster releases this summer including Batman: Arkham Knight, or Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pains. Maybe the game truly is not completed and they need more time to polish it up. It could also simply be the game is not living up to all the hype it has been receiving. In any case, it should cause a little concern because this generation of gaming has been plagued with delays and average titles since the release of this consoles.
It seems we will have to wait until next year to get a taste of Uncharted (hopefully), lets cross our fingers that Uncharted is as good as we all expect it to be.
