A retailer in Portugal has shown what looks like to be a pre-order for Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PlayStation 4. If this turns out to be true, the highly anticipated game will be another great addition in the catalog for the current generation of consoles. Also, it would seem Rockstar and Sony have not been too honest with gamers.
GTA 5 which is a record selling game has long been expected to be released on the PS4 and Xbox One around the same time GTA 5 would be released on the PC. It makes sense because the PS4 and Xbox One have very similar architectures to the PC and would be easy to port. However multiple claims from Rockstar employees have said that the game would not be coming to the PS4 or Xbox one. One example of the claims by Rockstar was an interview conducted by The Guardian, in which Dan Houser said it would not be re-released.
“Of course we’re interested. But no, not in terms of GTA, because we’re always working on the current game. We look at the tech at a more practical level: what will be ready for which game that we’re working on further down the line. We don’t have another GTA in development, we don’t work on three of these games at a time. That would be phenomenally depressing.
“So, in terms of GTA, no. We get pitched by the hardware manufacturers on what they’re planning to do and our tech guys come up with ideas on how that could be used. Does this influence design decisions? Of course. But we’re not sat there fantasizing about 10 years down the line. We’re so busy with what we’re doing right now.”[/quote]
Whether or not they intentionally hid the release or simply decided at the last minute to sell it is up for debate. It can be assumed they did not want gamers to think or know it would be released on the PS4 and Xbox One in order to maximize sales and profits. 160 million PS3’s and Xbox 360’s compared to only 10 million PS4’s and Xbox One’s is a vast difference. It can also just be the company making a higher definition version of their game as many publishers and developers are currently doing.
Some might also say Sony UK’s blunder was a dead giveaway that the Game would be released on the current generation of consoles all along.
Here is Sony UK’s first tweet.
Here is Sony UK’s second tweet.
We are hoping to hear more good news about this rumor, and if it indeed does release on the PS4, it will be a win-win for everyone.
