Guardians of the Galaxy, focuses on a strange group of heroes from the Marvel Universe, whom many might not know unless they are familiar with the Marvel comics; and shows that even the people we thought were most unlikely to be heroes are capable of doing the right thing. Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) Gamora (Zoe Saldana) Rocket (Bradley Cooper) Drax (Dave Bautista) and Groot (Vin Diesel), are truly the best heroes around.

One of the best aspects of this movie isn’t necessarily the story line which is your cliche save the world type movie, but instead, all of the little things that really made this movie one of the best of the year. Using some of the other humor from the other Marvel movies like Captain America, and the Avengers, this movie is definitely entertaining and was a joy to watch. The Director James Gunn, does a great job on using fact that these heroes really do not have super powers, with the exception of Groot who is a humaoid who can grow into an entire tree, (awesome power right?) and the other heroes who use weapons and martial arts techniques to get the job done; James Dunn makes the heroes seem entirely human and average albeit from their non human universe. The jokes are very modern and no part of this movie feels over done or unnecessary. A better way of saying this is there was not a forced romance, no tragic deaths, and just enough action to fulfill action or comic junkies.

Another great aspect of this movie was the soundtrack choice which I personally loved. The music isn’t loud, over the top, or uses a specific genre of music; instead, they are oldies which everyone knows and love. The reason for the oldies is because our hero Peter Quill, who lost his mother, was given a bunch of tapes from his mom that had her favorite music from when she was growing up. During the movie he plays this music which might seem strange, but then again, these are a strange group of heroes, and therefore it fits the movie perfectly. This sort of helped built Peter Quill’s character because even with his wrong doings, shows he is devout and does have a heart.

There are some awkward scenarios in this movie like the kiss that almost happened between Peter and Gamora, but all these are quickly turned into moments of laughter either by Rocket’s 1 liner, or some villain looking to fight. The movie is never stale and every scene feels refreshing and entertaining. When the movie first started I truly believed it was going to be one of the worst hero movies every, but I ended up being wrong, this movie is one of the best of the year and is in the running for being one of the best hero movies of all time.

Peter Quill, Gamora, Rocket, Drax, and Groot will no longer be the “who are they” heroes, but instead will become familiar to everyone as the Guardians of the Galaxy. My personal favorite of the group is Rocket who is played by Bradley Cooper. By the end of the movie, I am sure each of you will have a favorite as well. All though the movie is not as serious or as tragic as other hero or action movies, being entertaining was the goal, and it did so perfectly. This is a definitely movie night for kids, or simple a get out of the house movie, and will be a day 1 Blu-Ray pick up or at least for me. Guardians of the Galaxy earns 9.5 Stars out of 10 for its comedy, its swag, and its music.
